Tools to Thrive:  Mindfulness for Young Adults:

Dates:  Wednesdays beginning September 22 – October 20, 2021

Recommended for ages 18-24

Time: 7:30- 9:00 PM ET

This program will be facilitated by Joyce Sebian, Certified Mindfulness Teacher in partnership with co-leads Meredith Kucik and Emma Hunt who as young adults themselves have provided invaluable guidance and expertise in shaping this program. I’m deeply grateful.

As a young adult you are in the midst of an incredibly important time in your life.  You may be experiencing major changes such as being out of school for the first time, finding your voice, making big life decisions and feeling new pressures such as job hunting, housing, social media, friendships and the developmental and social realities of learning who you are.  Systemic racial, gender and cultural issues bring deep trauma and stress each day to many.  Throughout life, our experiences shape us and influence our reactions – positive and negative.  The COVID pandemic,  racial reckoning, social media and culture wars have added to the stress, isolation and anxiety that many young people experienced even prior to COVID.

Mindfulness practices have been shown to have many benefits.  Mindfulness improves well-being and improves mental and physical health. Mindfulness and meditation help us attend to negative thoughts and feelings without judgment.  By reducing the emotions that take us away from the present moments we feel better and can find  healthier and more authentic ways of being.

This 5 week program will be an opportunity to become more self-aware, learn new skills and build your  own unique tool kit to help you thrive and bring more confidence and joy in your daily life and expand the tools you have available in your mindfulness journey.  We are excited to offer this program and believe that “Tools to thrive: Mindfulness for Young Adults”  can help you navigate life now and in years to come.

Participants will:

  • Learn about the benefits of mindfulness and have the opportunity to practice meditation and mindfulness skills
  • Practice meditation and mindfulness techniques they can use in their daily lives.
  • Exchange ideas and experiences with peers in a safe and supportive environment
  • Engage in a variety of learning activities including small group discussions, facilitated discussions, exercises, educational talks, meditation and videos.
  • Explore resources, skills and practices and build  their mindfulness toolkit

This class will be limited in size.  Participants are asked to commit to the full 5 weeks so that we can build trust and connection among participants.  If you are interested in participating, email me at jks29202@gmail.com.  Please put MINDFULNESS (all caps) in the subject line.  Include your name, email and phone in the message.  Include a few sentences about why you want to participate in this class.  I look forward to hearing from you.

I will send an email within a day or two to let you know if your space is available.  This class will use a Zoom platform.

Mindfulness: Race, Culture and COVID

Tuesday’s October 6, 13, 20 and 26, 2020 from 8-9:30 pm ET

This class will provide an opportunity to explore how cultivating mindfulness and compassion can help us face the challenges in our lives today.  A shared experience for all of us are the issues of systemic racism, culture and COVID 19.  Mindfulness and meditation practice can both calm us when we are in reaction and dealing with stress, but also provide us with insights and clarity as we desire to make a difference in our own lives and in the lives of others. Mindfulness is a tool in the long term journey towards revealing our authentic self and to cultivating our most effective role in the work to create change for equity and social justice.  We all feel. fear, stress anger, loss and the full spectrum of emotions that make us human.  Bringing awareness to these emotions and how our body holds them and heals is critical at this time as we face some of the most incredible challenges and yes… opportunities of our time.   This class will consist of 4 weekly sessions of up to 10 participants.  I invite you to join me soon this journey as together we step into this space and share, learn and grow.

THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED.  PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR FUTURE EVENTS.  THANK YOU!
